RSA Animate - Crises of Capitalism

"The accumulation of community wealth into the hands of a few is destructive globally, out of control of host communities, dangerous for the future of the biosphere and will not respond to efforts to curb its path of greater concentration of greedy spoils at a dire cost to all. Capitalism is so toxic, so corruptive, so short term, so wasteful, so cruel, so immoral and yet has trained the minds of generations to accept its hegemony. The brand of capitalism that has blossomed in the USA is diabolical. We have a mainstream philosophy of self and to hell with the rest. The world is paying for this dearly and those who survive will learn to hate the perpetrators who have wrecked their children's chances of hope for a stable peaceful life. There is no future in capitalism as the inequity grows, natural resources diminish, climate runs away into unknown territory man has not lived in before, US and others rage war around the globe for power and profit albeit short term. Look at where we are going in senario one. We are right on track."

Angelina Jolie Mistress

one of my favorite scenes in this film. Jolie is a bad-ass bitch :

SHE : "you've been a bad boy?"
HE : "oh yes."
SHE : "do you know what happens to bad boys?"
HE : "no."
SHE : "they get punished."
HE : "oh yes."
SHE : "have you been selling guns to bad people?"
HE : "huh?"
(She snaps his neck and then escapes)

Wall Street Is Ground Zero

Wall street has been permitted to ruin things by their puppets in congress. A reading of article 1 reveals that the true power ought to reside with congress, as dysfunctional as they are.

The abdication of power in 1913 to an economic formula of debt > money supply was never constitutional.

Time to invoke article V for a constitutional convention.

Paganism is the ancestral religion of the whole of humanity. This ancient religious outlook remains active throughout much of the world today, both in complex civilisations such as Japan and India, and in less complex tribal societies world-wide. It was the outlook of the European religions of classical antiquity – Persia, Egypt, Greece and Rome – as well as of their “barbarian” neighbours on the northern fringes, and its European form is re-emerging into explicit awareness in the modern West as the articulation of urgent contemporary religious priorities.

The Pagan outlook can be seen as threefold. Its adherents venerate Nature and worship many deities, both goddesses and gods.

Nature – Veneration

The spirit of place is recognised in Pagan religion, whether as a personified natural feature such as a mountain, lake or spring, or as a fully articulated guardian divinity such as, for example, Athena, the goddess of Athens. The cycle of the natural year, with the different emphasis brought by its different seasons, is seen by most Pagans as a model of spiritual growth and renewal, and as a sequence marked by festivals which offer access to different divinities according to their affinity with different times of year. Many Pagans see the Earth itself as sacred: in ancient Greece the Earth was always offered the first libation of wine, although She had no priesthood and no temple.

Polytheism: Pluralism and Diversity

The many deities of Paganism are a recognition of the diversity of Nature. Some Pagans see the goddesses and gods as a community of individuals much like the diverse human community in this world. Others, such as followers of Isis and Osiris from ancient times onwards, and Wiccan-based Pagans in the modern world, see all the goddesses as one Great Goddess, and all the gods as one Great God, whose harmonious interaction is the secret of the universe. Yet others think there is a supreme divine principle, that “both wants and does not want to be called Zeus”, as Heraclitus wrote in the fifth century BCE, or which is the Great Goddess Mother of All Things, as Isis was to the first century CE novelist Apuleius and the Great Goddess is to many Western Pagans nowadays. Yet others, such as the Emperor Julian, the great restorer of Paganism in Christian antiquity, and many Hindu mystics nowadays, believe in an abstract Supreme Principle, the origin and source of all things. But even these last Pagans recognise that other spiritual beings, although perhaps one in essence with a greater being, are themselves divine, and are not false or partial divinities. Pagans who worship the One are described as henotheists, believers in a supreme divine principle, rather than monotheists, believers in one true deity beside which all other deities are false.

The Goddess

Pagan religions all recognise the feminine face of divinity. A religion without goddesses can hardly be classified as Pagan. Some Pagan paths, such as the cult of Odin or of Mithras, offer exclusive allegiance to one male god. But they do not deny the reality of other gods and goddesses, as monotheists do. (The word ‘cult’ has always meant the specialised veneration of one particular deity or pantheon, and has only recently been extended to mean the worship of a deified or semi-divine human leader.) By contrast, non-Pagan religions, such as Judaism, Christianity and Islam, often abhor the very idea of female divinity. The (then) Anglican Bishop of London even said a few years ago that religions with goddesses were ‘degenerate’!

A classic moment on Real Time with Bill Maher

July 19, 2013 - During tonight's Real Time, Dan Savage told Bill Maher about his reactions to this year's monumental Supreme Court rulings on gay marriage, the most laugh-out-loud awful anti-gay arguments, and one of his favorite ways to troll Christian conservatives. He also explained to Maher how gay male couples are most likely to be promiscuous, while lesbian couples are most likely to be monogamous, leading him to conclude that the problem with monogamy is simply "dick."

Savage credited all of the people brave enough to come out to their families as one of the biggest contributing factors to the social progress that's been made in the United States. One significant achievement was that, while years ago, "if one of those douchebags who's always threatening to kill me made good on it," as Savage put it, his family would not get the same kind of benefits straight couples would when one of the partners dies.

He also said how whenever he has people come up to him and tell him that gay people cannot biologically produce a child, he just tells them "Anything is possible for God," and "I'm gonna keep inseminating my husband and keep my fingers crossed." The camera jumped to a one shot of conservative guest Grover Norquist looking visibly uncomfortable, leading Maher to quip that Savage should move on so as not to induce any actual vomiting.

Maher also found it amusing that Savage's son came out to him as straight, joking how kids always want to rebel against their parents. Savage used this to slam the religious claim that kids adopt their parents' sexuality, because 1) he had straight siblings and his parents weren't particularly shitty just to him, and 2) gay people are born to straight couples all the time. That's kind of how gay people come into the world.

Maher also brought up Savage's claim that gay men are more promiscuous, but only because they're men. Savage explained that gay male couples are least likely to be monogamous, straight couples are in the middle, and lesbians are most likely to be monogamous. Therefore, Savage concluded, "clearly the problem with monogamy is dick."

Save CCSF Coalition challenges ACCJC's de-accreditation decision

"Today, the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) revealed that they aim to terminate City College of San Francisco’s accreditation, though they added that the “action to terminate is not yet final” and is open to both review and appeal. The Save CCSF Coalition — which represents faculty, students, staff, and community members – rejects the legitimacy of this announcement. “This announcement clearly shows that the ACCJC is a out-of-control rogue institution that must be stopped by the Department of Education,” said CCSF Professor Wendy Kaufmyn.
The ACCJC is currently under investigation by the Department of Education, following the complaint filed by the California Federation of Teachers and the AFT 2121 union, which cited the accreditation body’s violation of Federal and State laws, violation of their own policies, conflicts of interest, violation of due process and lack of transparency. “Our city, state, and federal representatives must step in immediately to reverse this outrageous announcement,” stated CCSF Student Trustee Shanell Williams. More information about the complaint can be found here:

It was one year ago that the ACCJC put CCSF on the most severe sanction, ”show cause”, despite the fact that CCSF has excellent educational programs and is considered one of the top community colleges in the nation. This decision is unacceptable, as has been the whole process over the past year. The Save CCSF Coalition calls on our college administration, San Francisco officials, and the Department of Education to step in immediate to overturn this overreach, which will further harm the students and community of CCSF.

The threat of closure has been used to force massive cuts in student programs, impose non-negotiated salary cuts to faculty and lay-off dozens of classified staff. This strategy to downsize and privatize public education has done great harm to CCSF students who are largely people of color, immigrants and working-class for whom CCSF is a lifeline.

We call on all labor unions, student groups, and community organizations to unite to take action against this attack — which is an attack on all public schools in California.

Next Tuesday (July 9, 2013) there will be a March to Save City College in response to the accreditation ruling at 4pm starting from the Downtown Campus of CCSF (more info below). On Wednesday (July 10) there will be a community meeting at 6pm at the Mission Campus. (more info below)

Airplane on fire at SFO airport

A plane is burning on the runway at San Francisco International Airport while emergency personnel attempt to evacuate survivors. According to Heavy.com, the plane is a Boeing 777 Asiana flight that was coming in from Seoul, South Korea.

Witnesses are saying that the plane’s tail touched the runway as it attempted to land.

Raw Story will post more updates as information becomes available.

UPDATE: KTVU Channel 2 reported that the flight was carrying 290 passengers and that the plane’s tail section appeared to come off as the plane touched down. A witness told the TV station that at around 11:30 a.m. local time, the plane had extended its landing gear and was coming in to land when the tail section separated from the aircraft.

The plane reportedly began to wobble, then flipped on to its back, skidding to a halt with smoke pouring from the cabin. The Redwood City Fire Department is on the scene.

UPDATE: One passenger, David Eun, tweeted, “I just crash landed at SFO. Tail ripped off. Most everyone seems fine. I’m ok. Surreal” along with a photo of the burning aircraft.

Outsourced Happy 4th of July

To the tea party shitbaggers : happy 4th of July, you super-patriot...ask your daddy or granddaddy why you only work 40 hours a week instead of 80, why there are no children in the mines, why you actually--at one time--made a living wage without having to hold out your hand for alms on the street corner...it was unions,
...but keep on spouting that Tea Bag crap about how they have driven jobs out of this country...regardless of the facts--indisputable facts--that "globalism", coupled with predictable greed, had Donald Trump make his ugly ties in China, as well as all the other outsourced jobs--including those ridiculous "customer service representatives" with the Bangladeshi accents who answer your calls to Bank of America...people like you make me sick...but hey, happy 4th of July, you super-patriot...

An Open Letter To The Community From BART Workers

Posted by Keep BART Running 1564pc on July 02, 2013 · Flag ·   Add your reaction

"We are deeply disappointed at the current situation with BART.  We are proud of our jobs and work hard to get you where you need to go.  Trust us when we say that we want to get back to work just as much as you want us to.
We have tried for months to work with BART’s high-paid negotiators to address critical safety issues in the system.  Workers have died because of the current lighting situation, but BART refuses to address this issue at the bargaining table.  We want to open bathrooms in stations and keep them clean and safe, but BART won’t address that either.  We want to ensure that the system is fully staffed so we have the capacity to keep trains, tracks, and riders safe.
And yes, some of this is about fair pay.  We gave up over $100 million in concessions in our last contract negotiations, and we haven’t had a raise in 5 years, yet the cost of living in the Bay Area has spiked by over 18%.  Meanwhile ridership is at record high and the system is running at peak condition.  We are being asked to do more, with fewer workers and less pay.  Its not fair and it hurts our ability to serve the riding public.
We work hard to get riders where they need to go quickly and safely, and as a result, BART has had back-to-back budget surpluses.  We stepped up 4 years ago and agreed to freeze our pay, to help keep the system running.  Now that their budget is flush, they are still asking us to make cuts and concessions.  BART is telling the public that they have offered the workers a pay increase, but they aren’t telling you the whole story.  They are also taking away more of our paycheck to fund our medical care and retirement security.  They even admitted in bargaining that their latest offer would leave each BART worker with a net pay increase of just $1 per year for the next four years.
We aren’t millionaires or members of the 1%.  In fact, many of our workers have to struggle to support their families with the rising cost of living.  We are asking for fair pay, adequate staffing, and a safer BART.  And management refuses to discuss safety issues or make any serious proposals on staffing and pay.
We remain willing and eager to return to the bargaining table at 6 pm to resolve this strike.  The Bay Area – our families and friends included – is suffering and BART isn’t doing anything to stop it.  In fact, every action that BART takes confirms to us that they have no interest in resolving this fairly and quickly.   In fact, the General Manager refuses to come to the table or even speak to the press! Just like the riders of the Bay Area, we've been left stranded by BART.
We are deeply disappointed, but are willing to return to the table, bargain in good faith, and we hope to end this strike as soon as possible.  But  we need your help to make sure that we have a willing partner in BART in order to end this strike.
Please contact the General Manager at 510-464-6060 and the BART Board of Directors at 510-464-6095 during business hours to tell them you support the BART workers demands for safety for riders and workers.  Urge them to stop playing games and bargain in good faith.  Contact them at at boardofdirectors@bart.gov by email."

the fight is not over

"On the backs of many who suffered we celebrate that day...who fought for rights at a time when to do so was a great risk..who weathered a health crisis the likes has seldom been seen....left alone to find answers.

Many battles are left to be fought...great and small.

Many people who could use some help..... sick, aging, alone.

I'd like to thank all that came before me...and all the people presently who have taken time and effort to advance us .

It took me well into my 30's to figure out that whether you like it or not.....In being gay......you are part of a community

and the community needs you.

Celebrating together is a wonderful thing.....especially when you have something to be proud about.

in the end, the love you take
Is equal to the love you make."-quoting Malcolm Ingram

The best thing about being over 40

"DOMA is unconstitutional as a deprivation of the liberty of the person protected by the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution." -- Justice Kennedy

"DOMA singles out a class of persons deemed by a State entitled to recognition and protection to enhance their own liberty." -- Justice Kennedy

"The Constitution's guarantee of equality 'must at the very least mean that a bare con- gressional desire to harm a politically unpopular group cannot' justify disparate treatment of that group.'" -- Justice Kennedy

"By seeking to displace this protection and treating those persons as living in marriages less respected than others, the federal statute is in violation of the Fifth Amendment." -- Justice Kennedy

"This opinion and its holding are confined to those lawful marriages." -- Justice Kennedy

"The power the Constitution grants it also restrains. And though Congress has great authority to design laws to fit its own conception of sound national policy, it cannot deny the liberty protected by the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment." -- Justice Kennedy

"The Court's errors on both points spring forth from the same diseased root: an exalted conception of the role of this institution in America." -- Justice Scalia

"The Court does not have before it, and the logic of its opinion does not decide, the distinct question whether the States, in the exercise of their 'historic and essential authority to define the marital relation,' ante, at 18, may continue to utilize the traditional definition of marriage." -- Chief Justice Roberts

"On the merits of the constitutional dispute the Court decides to decide, I also agree with Justice Scalia that Congress acted constitutionally in passing the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA)." -- Chief Justice Roberts

Tuesday, June 25, 2013

"Tomorrow, the United States Supreme Court will rule on two cases involving marriage equality: Prop 8 and DOMA. These decisions will have an immeasurable impact on same-sex couples and their families, and could forever change the course of American history.

Until full marriage-equality is established nation-wide, I and my LGBT brothers and sisters will be treated as second-class citizens whose children and families are denied basic legal rights and protections. That means limited rights for non-biological parents, denial of health benefits for partners, denial of inheritance and social security benefits for partners, restricted adoption rights, restricted medical and hospital visitation rights, and more than a thousand other legal protections that opposite-sex couples are given. Enough is enough. It's time that we live up to our nation's values and demand that all citizens be created equal under the law."-quote

The reason high unemployment exists

If you’re unemployed, it’s not because there isn’t any work.
Just look around: A housing shortage, crime, pollution; we need better schools and parks. Whatever our needs, they all require work. And as long as we have unsatisfied needs, there’s work to be done.
So ask yourself, what kind of world has work but no jobs? It’s a world where work is not related to satisfying our needs, a world where work is only related to satisfying the profit needs of business.
This country was not built by the huge corporations or government bureaucracies. It was built by people who work. And, it is working people who should control the work to be done. Yet, as long as employment is tied to somebody else’s profits, the work won’t get done.

The Broken Bargain for LGBT workers

"A landmark new report released today examines how lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) workers might have the same job as a coworker, yet be legally fired, denied equal benefits and be required to pay thousands of dollars more in taxes simply because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. A Broken Bargain: Discrimination, Fewer Benefits and More Taxes for LGBT Workers illustrates how America’s basic bargain—that those who work hard can get ahead—is broken for LGBT workers. The report vividly shows how antiquated and discriminatory laws make it harder for LGBT workers to provide for themselves and their families, and offers detailed policy recommendations for addressing those inequities."

Compare Union vs Non Union Laborer

Confessions of a Union Buster

"Confessions of a Union Buster," Martin Jay Levitt lays out how "human resources consultants" use fear and divide-and-conquer techniques to beat back employee efforts to gain representation.

Target's Anti-Union Propaganda Video

Lowes Manager Training, Anti-Union Propaganda

This is a training video from Lowes. The first fifty minutes describe how to find and gather information on unions to combat them, and provides no information on the benefits of unions. The next after the first fifty is a fourty minute video telling you how to profile individuals as union members, and gain employee trust to provide misinformation on unions. Unions are becoming more important in today's society with minimal benefits being offered to workers, random scheduling and hours, and lack of hours being provided to employees. They label unions as enemy, foe, and as business organizations that only want to take your money. These videos are obvious propaganda and should be shared with everyone. If these are the things people are learning on the job its no wonder union membership is on the decline, and our lackluster education system does not teach young individuals about the importance of unions.
