The best thing about being over 40

"DOMA is unconstitutional as a deprivation of the liberty of the person protected by the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution." -- Justice Kennedy

"DOMA singles out a class of persons deemed by a State entitled to recognition and protection to enhance their own liberty." -- Justice Kennedy

"The Constitution's guarantee of equality 'must at the very least mean that a bare con- gressional desire to harm a politically unpopular group cannot' justify disparate treatment of that group.'" -- Justice Kennedy

"By seeking to displace this protection and treating those persons as living in marriages less respected than others, the federal statute is in violation of the Fifth Amendment." -- Justice Kennedy

"This opinion and its holding are confined to those lawful marriages." -- Justice Kennedy

"The power the Constitution grants it also restrains. And though Congress has great authority to design laws to fit its own conception of sound national policy, it cannot deny the liberty protected by the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment." -- Justice Kennedy

"The Court's errors on both points spring forth from the same diseased root: an exalted conception of the role of this institution in America." -- Justice Scalia

"The Court does not have before it, and the logic of its opinion does not decide, the distinct question whether the States, in the exercise of their 'historic and essential authority to define the marital relation,' ante, at 18, may continue to utilize the traditional definition of marriage." -- Chief Justice Roberts

"On the merits of the constitutional dispute the Court decides to decide, I also agree with Justice Scalia that Congress acted constitutionally in passing the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA)." -- Chief Justice Roberts

"Tomorrow, the United States Supreme Court will rule on two cases involving marriage equality: Prop 8 and DOMA. These decisions will have an immeasurable impact on same-sex couples and their families, and could forever change the course of American history.

Until full marriage-equality is established nation-wide, I and my LGBT brothers and sisters will be treated as second-class citizens whose children and families are denied basic legal rights and protections. That means limited rights for non-biological parents, denial of health benefits for partners, denial of inheritance and social security benefits for partners, restricted adoption rights, restricted medical and hospital visitation rights, and more than a thousand other legal protections that opposite-sex couples are given. Enough is enough. It's time that we live up to our nation's values and demand that all citizens be created equal under the law."-quote

The reason high unemployment exists

If you’re unemployed, it’s not because there isn’t any work.
Just look around: A housing shortage, crime, pollution; we need better schools and parks. Whatever our needs, they all require work. And as long as we have unsatisfied needs, there’s work to be done.
So ask yourself, what kind of world has work but no jobs? It’s a world where work is not related to satisfying our needs, a world where work is only related to satisfying the profit needs of business.
This country was not built by the huge corporations or government bureaucracies. It was built by people who work. And, it is working people who should control the work to be done. Yet, as long as employment is tied to somebody else’s profits, the work won’t get done.

The Broken Bargain for LGBT workers

"A landmark new report released today examines how lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) workers might have the same job as a coworker, yet be legally fired, denied equal benefits and be required to pay thousands of dollars more in taxes simply because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. A Broken Bargain: Discrimination, Fewer Benefits and More Taxes for LGBT Workers illustrates how America’s basic bargain—that those who work hard can get ahead—is broken for LGBT workers. The report vividly shows how antiquated and discriminatory laws make it harder for LGBT workers to provide for themselves and their families, and offers detailed policy recommendations for addressing those inequities."

Compare Union vs Non Union Laborer

Confessions of a Union Buster

"Confessions of a Union Buster," Martin Jay Levitt lays out how "human resources consultants" use fear and divide-and-conquer techniques to beat back employee efforts to gain representation.

Target's Anti-Union Propaganda Video

Lowes Manager Training, Anti-Union Propaganda

This is a training video from Lowes. The first fifty minutes describe how to find and gather information on unions to combat them, and provides no information on the benefits of unions. The next after the first fifty is a fourty minute video telling you how to profile individuals as union members, and gain employee trust to provide misinformation on unions. Unions are becoming more important in today's society with minimal benefits being offered to workers, random scheduling and hours, and lack of hours being provided to employees. They label unions as enemy, foe, and as business organizations that only want to take your money. These videos are obvious propaganda and should be shared with everyone. If these are the things people are learning on the job its no wonder union membership is on the decline, and our lackluster education system does not teach young individuals about the importance of unions.
